Information
Out of Zone Enrolments
Please be advised that Out-of-Zone applications for the start of the 2026 academic year have now closed.
Note: A second intake of Out-of-Zone enrolments may be conducted for the beginning of Term 3, 2026.
Any further opportunities for enrolment will be advertised publicly via our usual channels.
Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School has an enrolment scheme in place. Students who live in our home zone are automatically entitled to enrol at the school. Students living out of the zone who wish to enrol are subject to the procedures defined by the Education Act.
If you wish to apply for an out of zone enrolment, please complete the Ballot Application form and we will be in touch.
Enrolment of out of zone pupils will be accepted in the following order:
First Priority: this priority is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.
Second Priority: must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.
Third Priority: must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.
Fourth Priority: must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
Fifth Priority: must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the Board of the school or a child of a member of the Board or the school.
Sixth Priority: must be given to all other applicants.
In situations where the number of applicants exceeds the number of places available for out of zone students, selection will be by ballot. If a ballot is required at our school, it will be held on a nominated date and will be supervised by a Justice of the Peace (or as appropriate, a practising lawyer or a sworn member of the police).
Within three school days of this date, the school will send you an email informing you of the outcome of the ballot. If your application has been successful, you will be asked to confirm your acceptance or rejection of the offered place within 14 days of the date on the school’s email. If you do not respond within the 14 day period, the place will be offered to the first person on the waiting list established by the ballot.
If you would like further information about the out of zone enrolment process please contact the school, either by email at admin@rolleston.school.nz, or phone 03 347 8355.

Documentation
You will need to provide the originals of your child’s birth certificate, immunisation certificate, evidence of living in our zone (we do not accept Rates demands), any relevant custody arrangements, and any relevant visa and residency documents.
Information
School Visits
Prior to your child starting school, you will receive a correspondence informing you of three school visits that your child will need to attend.
These dates are pre-set due to our Cohort entry date. We have two Cohorts per term and depending on when your child turns 5, will determine when they will start school. Please see the Cohort Entry dates.
On the first visit, parents and caregivers are welcome to stay for the whole time to support their child.
On the second and third visits, we would appreciate it if you could leave your child for the duration of the visit, as this is a nice lead-in for starting full school days.
