What is PB4L?

PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective. The framework is based on international evidence.

The Positive Behaviour for Learning School-Wide framework, otherwise known as PB4L School-Wide, is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life. The framework can be tailored to your school’s own environment and cultural needs.

PB4L School-Wide takes at least 3-5 years to put in place. Over this time, schools should see:

  • incidents of problem behaviour decline

  • the behaviour of students improve

  • teachers spending more time teaching

  • students more engaged and achieving

What is Kiva?

Through our KIVA Anti-Bullying Programme, our students continue to receive regular lessons aimed at the prevention, intervention and strategies to deal with incidences of Bullying. The programme also supports our students to continue to recognise what is and isn't Bullying.

KIVA - What is Bullying?

Harmful behaviour/degrading treatment, which is:

  • deliberate and targeted at a specific person(s)

  • repeated

  • targeted at a relatively defenceless or a less powerful person

KIVA - What is NOT Bullying?

Bullying is not:

  • a conflict or disagreement

  • an argument

  • a fight

  • an accident

  • an emotional response

  • a one-off incident (usually)

Instead, it is a manifestation of a repressive relationship; an abuse of power and strength.
