Leanne Brown Board Chairperson
I have been on the board for 10 years now, and have held most positions over that time.
We have worked hard over the last few years developing our vision and strategic plan. The environmental plan for our school is an important strategic focus along with managing continual roll growth.
My husband Shane and I have been operating a transport business “Canterbury Westland Transport Ltd.” from our home for 15 years now where we employ two other drivers. I work for two days a week overseeing all the office financial systems, as well as part-time Secondary teaching.
We have four children, our eldest attends Lincoln High School and our other three attend Rolleston School. One of my highlights as a parent of Rolleston School has been being responsible for introducing the new uniforms. The representative sports uniform has certainly lifted the profile of the school at sporting events, and I am very proud of those pupils when they compete. I am also proud of the new school uniform; it promotes excellence and school pride.
I feel passionate about the Rolleston community, and enjoy being an active member. Over the past few years our family have been involved in many sporting codes including cricket, swimming, netball, soccer, triathlons and touch rugby. I have a particular passion for netball, having been on the Rolleston Netball Club committee for 15 years, and a president for three of those.
Other activities that I love are photography, sewing, reading and camping with the family at Lake Benmore. Andrew Morrall
Principal
I have been a school principal for more years than I care to admit! I have been principal here at Rolleston for 6 years
and have enjoyed the huge challenges that this time has thrown up. Managing the virtual rebuilding of our school and appointing many wonderful staff has been a huge part of my life.
I feel privileged to have been a part of this process and have enjoyed working with a variety of board members and a wonderful teaching team over the years. As a teacher, I have a passion for English and Drama and I enjoy teaching volleyball and hockey. My wife Avril and I both enjoy travel, cooking and finding new and interesting wines to try!
Avril works as a Reading Recovery Teacher, so education seems to find its way into many conversations as we work together in the kitchen!
I am looking forward to the next few years here as we continue to develop our wonderful school and support our EXPRESS learners. I like to think that my door is open, so feel free to pop in if you have something you’d like to discuss.
Graham Gillespie
Deputy Chairman
I have lived in Rolleston for nine years. My wife Danielle and I have two girls at Rolleston School with a third daughter who finished Year 8 last year. I have been on the Rolleston School Board since being appointed in 2008 ,currently I am Deputy Chair of the Board.
In my professional life I am the Managing Director of an Industrial supply company based in Rolleston, servicing the South Island and Fiji. I have been involved as a volunteer with St John Ambulance for 30 years, since joining as a cadet. For many years I was the Regional Youth Manager responsible for St John’s growing Youth programme from Nelson to the Waitaki. Currently I am the Chairman for St John in Christchurch
With the rapid growth in both roll and school infrastructure it is an exciting time to be on the Rolleston School Board of Trustees. I am enjoying being part of the team who are ensuring our School meets the challenges of the present and future. Nigel Craythorne
Property
I have been lucky enough to have been on the Board of Trustees at this fine school for four years, mainly involved with the Property Sub-Committee.
The Property Committee has been extremely busy and it has been a pleasure to watch the School physically change shape so incredibly over the last few years. Although there have been many changes in our school “skyline” it is exciting that there are more yet to take place, next being the total re-development of our school grounds. One of the biggest highlights for me is watching school assemblies take place in such a wonderful building rather than in the open on cold, hard concrete.
I have been a Police Officer for 17 years; the last six in the Selwyn District, including three in the Rolleston area. Therefore I have a very close connection with the School, and Rolleston area on both a personal and professional basis.
My two beautiful daughters, Madison and Libby, attend Rolleston School and I try to be involved with everything they are involved in at School. It is always a pleasure to travel out of the Rolleston area with Sports Groups etc as it makes me realise what a very fine example Rolleston Pupils, Teachers and Parents set for our School.
My work schedule does not allow for too many hobbies although I enjoy going to the gym. I also regularly run the Buller Half Marathon and was even crazy enough to have completed their full marathon. I have also run the Christchurch Half Marathon on five occasions. On days off I also enjoy getting out on my Motorcycle and heading off over the hills. James Prusas
Finance Hello everyone, my name is James Prusas and I am very pleased to be representing you on the Board of Trustees as the Treasurer. I have three children currently at Rolleston School, Amelia, Abby and Charlie, and my wife Marama takes an active part in many school activities.
We have lived in Rolleston for the last 12 years, with a brief two to three year stint in Australia to see the sun. My family and I enjoy the fantastic community spirit that Rolleston has, and you only have to visit the local sports club and shops to see this. I am the Group Sales and Operations Manager for Postie Plus Group Limited and travel around New Zealand, frequently visiting stores and customers. We have just recently opened a new store in Rolleston in Rolleston Square and so far this is proving to be a very good move! I am playing Golden Oldies rugby for the Rolleston Rebels which is enjoyable but I certainly feel the age related injuries after each game. I also enjoy watching sport and attempt to play golf from time to time. Jacqui Newell
Secretary
This is my first term on the Board, and it is a very exciting time to have started. Most of the hard work involved with the building is over and now we are into the fun part of creating a fabulous outdoor environment for our children.
Previous to being on the Board of Trustees I was part of the PTA, firstly as a Committee member, then as a part of the Fair team, and lastly as the Secretary. I was on the Christchurch Multiple Birth Club committee member for six years, in various roles including Co-President, Funding Officer, Hire Equipment, Librarian, and was part of the Committee organising the National Conference and AGM held in Christchurch in 2010. Craig and I have three children at Rolleston School. In my previous life (before children!) I was a successful teacher, at Arthur Street in Dunedin, and before that at Mackenzie College in Fairlie, mainly teaching Years 6 -9. My experience as a teacher gives me another insight into school life, and another set of skills to bring to the Board of Trustees. I am passionate about making our school the best place for our children; to foster an environment where they may become the best people they can be.
Jade Bell Staff Representative I am new to the board this year and am enjoying seeing some of the nuts and bolts that make our school successful and an incredible place to work and learn. I have been a teacher for the last 9 year working at various year groups within the primary sector and have spent the last 4 years at Rolleston, in the New Entrant/Year 1 area. I am passionate about literacy and am currently the team leader for this area in the school. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge and enjoyment of music and the visual arts with the children. For the past three years I have also had the pleasure of being part of the team that works with our school Kapa Haka group.I currently live in the small settlement of Taumutu, on the southern tip of Lake Ellesmere, with my partner. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, singing and making the most of the environment I live in, by walking. I am proud to be part of the Rolleston School Team, and enjoy the challenge and learning that takes place with the guidance of our innovative principal, especially as we explore Reggio inspired learning and develop our awareness of the importance of the voice of the child in the direction our teaching and learning takes. |
